What it is

Atorvastatin or rosuvastatin

Statins are among the most studied medicines in existence and among the most quietly abandoned, usually within a year, usually because nobody followed up. This plan is built around the follow-up.

What it does in your body

It inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in liver cholesterol synthesis. The liver responds by pulling more LDL out of your blood. The cardiovascular benefit comes from the years of lowered LDL, not from any effect you will feel — which is exactly why people stop taking it.
