What it is

Amlodipine, lisinopril or combination

Roughly a third of Nigerian adults have raised blood pressure and most of them are not controlled on it — usually not because the medicine failed but because the supply broke. This plan exists to remove that failure point.

You get a generic single agent or a combination, whichever your readings call for, every thirty days without asking. If you do not have a home cuff, we send one, because a plan built on readings taken twice a year at a pharmacy counter is not a plan.

What it does in your body

Amlodipine relaxes the arterial smooth muscle by blocking calcium entry, so the vessels widen and the pressure falls. Lisinopril blocks the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, which reduces both constriction and salt retention. Which one you get, or whether you get both, depends on your readings, your kidneys and what you have already tried.

What most people get, and the bit that matters

Common
Ankle swelling on amlodipine — common, dose-related, tell your doctor
A dry persistent cough on lisinopril, in a minority of people
Light-headedness in the first fortnight, especially standing up quickly
Headache and flushing early on
Worth memorisingAny swelling of the lips, tongue or face on an ACE inhibitor is angioedema. Stop the tablet and get emergency care in person — do not wait for a WhatsApp reply.
Who should not take this
Pregnancy — ACE inhibitors are harmful to a developing baby and this needs changing before you conceive
Bilateral renal artery stenosis
A previous episode of angioedema on an ACE inhibitor
Anyone whose blood pressure needs urgent in-person assessment — a doctor will refer you rather than prescribe

This list is not exhaustive and does not replace the consultation. The intake form asks the questions that decide it, which is why the honest answers matter more than the fast ones.
